Air Filter Replacement

April 25, 2012     By Stacey Cooper

You may be wondering if it is important to change your air filters in your HVAC equipment or if it’s just another monotonous task a manufacturer capitalizes on to have steady cash flow. Well, I hate to break it to you, but there are many benefits to changing your home air filters regularly.

1. Increase Efficiency

A dirty air filter makes it more difficult for the air to flow, resulting in your equipment working harder to maintain desired settings. This decreases the efficiency of your equipment, resulting in a higher energy bill along with increased emissions. A clean air filter will keep your equipment running efficiently.

2. Equipment Life Expectancy

Well, I am not going to say maintaining your equipment will increase the life expectancy, because it’s life expectancy is based on the fact that it is being properly maintained. However, if it is not properly maintained, your equipment is more likely to come across problems and eventually fail, costing you a new HVAC system.

3. Decrease Dust and Debris

Are your allergies acting up? Is your home unusually dusty? Try changing your furnace air filter. Keeping your air filters clean will decrease the dust and debris being pushed through the ventilation system of your home.

Okay, so now you know the benefits to replace your furnace filter, but how often should you change your home air filter? Well, it depends on equipment usage but Cooper Heating and Cooling recommends inspecting your HVAC air filter once a month. If the air filter is dirty, it is time to replace it. Based on regular HVAC equipment usage in Colorado, it is common to change your air filter once a month.

If you aren’t sure how to change your air filter, call Cooper Heating and Cooling in Denver or Colorado Springs. We recommend scheduling a 25-Point HVAC Tune-up, which includes inspecting your furnace filter.
